In Nepal, people with deafblindness are considered one of the most marginalized and vulnerable groups.

According to the Nepal Government’s previous definition and classification of disabilities, deafblindness was considered just another type in the multiple disability category. This made it difficult for people with deafblindness to receive the specific support and assistance they needed.

Thanks to the advocacy from the community led by the National Federation of Disabled Nepal [NFDN], the government separated deafblindness from multiple disabilities and recognized it as a distinct disability in 2006. However, despite this recognition, the people with deafblindness still faces significant challenges in getting information, securing their rights, and accessing the support they need.

Access to technology can be a game-changer for people with deafblindness, providing new ways to access information, communicate with others, and participate in daily life.

These resources will enable people with deafblindness and those that support them to live, learn, and thrive.
