This resource provides a simple, step-by-step guide to making low-cost, homemade shakers using locally available materials such as bottle tops and containers. It is designed to support children’s play and sensory development by offering an easy, accessible activity that caregivers, teachers, and communities can create and use at home or in learning environments

Materials needed

  1. Metallic bottle tops
  2. Nails
  3. Hammer
  4. A pair of Pliers
  5. A strong wire

Process

We want to make a shaker.

Get your bottle top. These metallic bottle tops, that have just been removed from a bottle.

Create a hole in the center of it. By hitting a nail through.

After creating a hole through the bottle top, turn the bottle top upside down and make it flat. This is so that the wire can go through it.

Once you are done, you do this.

You can also find another metallic wire that is smaller than this.

This hole acts as a passage. Then you pass it through like this.

When you are done, you fold it and tie a knot.

After, this is how you shake it.

This is easy to use and does not require a lot of money. Making this kind of shaker is very easy because the materials can be accessed.

We are now making our locally made shakers. So even when the child is sleeping, she/he is able tp listen/hear to the sound of the shaker.

This was easy to make because it doesn’t require any money. It is homemade.

Here, you are done making your home-made shaker.

Alternatively, you can get a container. Create holes through it and add small pieces of stone. And it will produce a very good sound.
